The Junk Mail After Closing
Why your mailbox and phone suddenly blow up after buying a home—and what you can do about it.
You bought the house, got the keys, moved in…and suddenly everyone seems to know about it. 😳
Welcome to one of the less-fun parts of becoming a homeowner.
Once your home purchase and deed are recorded, certain information becomes public record. Companies can use that information, along with other marketing data, to target new homeowners with mortgage offers, refinance solicitations, insurance, warranties, home services and more.
That’s why your mailbox—and sometimes your phone—can suddenly get a little crazy.
🔇 Turn Down the Noise
A few simple steps can help reduce some of it:
Reduce prescreened credit offers:
Visit OptOutPrescreen.com to opt out of certain prescreened credit and insurance offers.
Reduce marketing mail:
DMAchoice.org can help reduce certain types of direct marketing mail.
Reduce telemarketing calls:
Register your number with the National Do Not Call Registry at DoNotCall.gov.
These won't stop everything overnight, but they can definitely help turn down the volume.
🚨 Watch Out for “Official-Looking” Mortgage Offers
This is the big one.
Some mortgage and refinance advertisements are designed to look official or may include information about your mortgage that makes them appear connected to your current lender.
That doesn't necessarily mean they came from your lender—or from me.
If you get something that catches your eye, send it to me before you respond. I’m always happy to take a look and help you figure out if it’s legitimate and actually worth your time.
